In 1990, WAV's President and CEO, Norm Dumbroff, based POS Information Systems out of Macomb, Illinois and started out as a Point of Sale focused Solution Provider.
A natural progression occurred in the market place, and clients became interested in data collection, well beyond just point of sale. The best way to capture this data was through emerging wireless technology.
The Company surveyed the market and chose Telxon as the vendor of choice. In order to be closer to the technology and a larger client base, POS Information Systems relocated to the Chicago area.
The Company continued to grow as a wireless LAN and data-capturing Solution Provider, and Telxon took note of the Company's technical expertise, dedication to client service, and overall business acumen.
In 1996, Telxon approached POS with a novel idea that would better serve the market. Telxon saw a place for another link in the supply chain and offered POS Information Systems the opportunity. POS became a large Solution Provider that serviced other Solution Providers. Telxon began to truly see the benefits of this approach, and in 1997, POS officially became one of the first VADs (Value Added Distributors) for Telxon products. In 1999, POS Information Systems decided it was time for an identity change to better describe the technology clients were interested in now and in the future. POS changed its name to WAV, Inc. and became a true value added distributor.
