Put Big Chill on Competition

Continental Refrigerated Services is a full-service cold storage warehousing and transportation provider. Based in University Park, IL, the company serves customers throughout the Midwest, and prides itself on its customer-focused operations and experienced team.

Continental considers itself a full-service logistics partner for its customers, and has enjoyed rapid growth. To keep up with that growth and establish even higher levels of customer support, Continental was in need of a new inventory management system to track inbound and outbound frozen goods as well as timely shipment of products. The desire was to move to a paperless system that encompassed secure Internet access for order processing, inventory management and reporting.

Intermec Honours Partner, Quality Data Source (QDS), provided the right solution and backed it with a variety of value-added services. QDS supported Continental with services ranging from the site-survey to installation and post-sale support. Throughout the purchasing process and installation, QDS led the sales and support effort – including WAV and Intermec team members.

Because of Continental’s demanding environment, QDS recommended Intermec 2435 Heated Wireless Data Collection Computers, 2455 Heated Vehicle Mount Computers, Heated WA21 Access Points and 3400e bar code printers. Competitive solutions from Citadel and LXE were considered; however, the customer chose Intermec.

With the new rugged solution, Continental has increased productivity and provided its customers with more timely shipments and product updates. The operational result is savings of thousands of dollars in man-hours and other production increases. Additionally, and perhaps most important to Continental, was the ability to take its customer support levels to even greater heights.
