With “Voice Over WiFi” gaining momentum in the Wireless Market, a pair of prominent WAV Wireless Partners have joined forces to offer an industry first VoWiFi solution to allow seamless convergence of high quality voice with highly secure corporate data applications onto a single cost effective and easily managed WiFi network. 

Colubris Networks & SpectraLink Corporation have announced an interoperability partnership & collectively engineered a solution that supports the SpectraLink Voice Priority (SVP) protocol, providing interoperability with the Colubris CN1250 802.11 a/b/g enterprise access devices that will be available in July 2004. 

Building on Colubris Networks Industry-first multi-service Virtual AP foundation, the CN1250 Access Points now provide a simpler and lower cost solution to enterprises that are converging voice and data applications onto a single, fully managed Wi-Fi Network.  Prior to the Colubris – SpectraLink solution, enterprises have been required to operate all Wi-Fi applications at the lowest common level of security or to deploy completely separate Wi-Fi networks for each application. 

Colubris’s Virtual AP solution eliminates these restrictions by isolating each service and enforcing independently configurable security & quality of service (QoS) profiles for each service.  These developments result in a shared Wi-Fi network that can now support VoWi-Fi applications, which typically implement WEP security enforcement, open guest Internet access with no security and critical corporate data with robust WPA or VPN security.
